We left Rapid City, SD yesterday and drove to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park and ended at Devil’s Tower National Park. All of the stops were great and amazing in there own way. Along the way we saw buffalo, deer, and loads of prairie dogs. We drove through some amazing scenery. The picture of Devil’s tower was taken from our campsite! We woke up early and hiked around the tower. There were several rock climbers about halfway up that we watched for quite awhile. They were so far away but you could hear their conversations clearly. We left around 11:00AM and took back roads into Montana, South Dakota, North and North Dakota. We were on one dirt road for close to 100 miles, we only saw other vehicles the last 20 or so miles! There was “cattle at large” during quite a bit of the road. We had to stop for cows more than once and missed a deer by less than 5 feet. We got back onto the highway and pulled into Cody, WY about 8:00PM. We’ll head into Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks tomorrow. We are planning on staying with a friend in Jackson, WY.

Hey Pappas & Pappas
I know you are enjoying the road trip. The last time I visited Devil's Tower, because of the Indian's reverence for it as a holy place, climbing was not allowed for a specified time frame. It would be awesome to watch someone climb that formation. Watch out for any rodeos in Wyoming in the evenings. Even small towns have them and if you catch one it can be entertaining. One warning, as you may know, every little town in Wyoming reduces the speed from 55 to 45 to 35 to 25 in a blink of the eye. Especially out the east gate of Yellowstone towards Cody and Powell, they utilize those as speed traps to catch tourist and enhance local revenue. The cops do not cut you any breaks and the signs give you little time to even brake. My brother got a ticket in one last year for 38 in a 35. Enjoy Yellowstone and Jackson! As always, I am envious.

Hey there Pappas boys, great pictures! I remember a story I read of a guy who attempted to parachute and land on the top of Devil's Tower--well he made it ok but did not have a real bulletproof plan for getting down off the tower. After a few days of deliberation the authorities decided to fly in an accomplished rock climber from Dartmouth N.H to climb and fetch the hungry soul. Good stuff! Ithink this happenned in the late 50s early 60s. We all probably have a little parachute man in us. Safe travels--Mimi's Dad
Hey Peter,
This is Lundeen. We enjoy reading where you have been going, and we have also been to custer state park, and buffalo were roaming around our car. We also went to rushmore, walldrug, the corn pallace, devil's tower and Crazy horse. You should have stopped into Bear Country USA, it is a great place. Also you should have stopped in the mall of america, because it is huge, it has an amusement park in it and also like 2 or 3 skate shops. Try not to get blown away in a tornado in Wyoming! Have fun on your trip!
later Talkative son,
Brian Lundeen
